I hate to say it. America is going under because...democratic, Christian America is rotting right under our noses because...we can't discern, much less stop, the "Devil".
I use the term "Devil" as a representation of the "dark side" of the Force (or whatever you wish to call this great ugliness). I must admit that I don't know where it could possibly have come from, God being omnipotent, omniscient, and Love, and all. But some kind of nightmare is arising among us, and it is terrifying...and much bigger that Islamic extremism.
It hates LOVE. It hates TRUTH.
Isn't it the Bible that says, the "Devil is the father of all lies"? Let's take a look at that verse, John 8:44. Amplified Version:
"You are of your father, the Devil...He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar, and the father of lies and all that is false."
That's a pretty good description of most politicians. Their lies seem pretty natural to them - and they say them all the time. So the father of most of our leaders is the Devil. (Or we wouldn't be tumbling down this mountainside). The Devil is a murderer and destroyer. His children lie, make war, steal and plunder.
Our nation is groaning under this spreading darkness, and that darkness is very powerful. It's gotten most all of the Republicans, and a whole lot of Democrats. The Devil pretty much owns the media, too. We're not going to be able to learn much of anything worthwhile from it.
Instead of using the national wealth to raise the standard of living and quality of life of all citizens, we allow movie, TV, sport and business idols to be paid more than wise men, just to play ball, play act, play with money. Shameful, just shameful! I do it too. It's still shameful.
God (love, truth, compassion, generosity, honor) is mocked on many streets (particularly Wall Street). The Devil, seated on a golden calf, is ascending the throne, with his Queen, marking America as the greatest whore of all. (We were, after all, betrothed to Jesus.)
Can't tell wolves in sheep's clothing? Good Luck!
America, open your eyes, it's the angels you want running things, not the demons. Can't tell the difference? Good Luck! (And remember, we're tumbling down the mountainside.)

Democratic America was supposed to be THE SOCIETY in which all citizens would be equally worthy of all basic living amenities, such as: health care; education; full employment at living wages (so long as we have a "money economy" we have to have a system to get money into everybody's hands); shelter; food, and reasonably priced national recreational sites.
In short, the only viable social system is the "common good". It's the only fair one. There should not be an "aristocracy of wealth" any more that an "aristocracy of birth". Both are scams.
America took a wrong turn when it allowed private interests (not the common good) to take over monetary and economic policy. All wealth in the U.S. should be National Wealth, to be distribu-
ted more or less equally to each citizen as they're fair share. If someone deserves a special distribution of money because they merit it, fine. "Merit" would be based on the doing of public good, on enriching life. (Remember, because you can steal it does not mean you merit it.)
The society that does not settle the "distribution of wealth" issue on the basis of "common good" standards will collapse. Guess what, folks, that's America you see collapsing. Funny, it was not Soviet Communism that got us; not Islamic extremism that got us. It was some of our very own that got us. The capitalist profiteers have got us...have ruined us.
Most of our leaders have stabbed us in the back, since most of them have sold us out in favor of the aristocracy of wealth (or we wouldn't be tumbling down this mountainside - where many citizens have been injured, and some killed.)
So, Americans couldn't do it either. We couldn't establish "liberty and justice for all". We failed to show the world how to build a glorious union of caring, good, honest, free, people. We have failed to get it, to understand. The "common good" is the only system that can bring about maximum harmony, opportunity and hope for all citizens. America has said NO to it, even called it "socialism".
America's true enemies? All who hate the "common good".

social democracy
Maybe I've been dreaming. I thought every American wanted the healthiest, fairest and most honorable social system possible, one that would be the inspiration and model for the world.
Capitalism cannot, by its very nature (allowing men to obtain excessive riches without merit, while impoverishing the common worker, and creating an inane, banal and bankrupt commercial culture ), create Heaven (metaphorically speaking, at the least) on earth.
Social democracy can, and it alone. Social democracy, in America, is easily understood. Christianity, in its pure form, and metaphorically speaking, describes Heaven, and how to get it. Essentially, it involves the adopting of integrity and virtue as the national ideals rather than excess profit (which is a capitalist-product, not a Jesus-product) and rampant corruption ( a product of Hell, not Heaven).
But the evil empire (a deep and complex mystery power), weaving its web of clever destructiveness, consummate deceitfulness, and powerful distractions and obfuscations, has actually succeeded in convincing Americans that the very thing they need, and deep down want, namely, "social democracy," is what we have most to fear. Ouch!
Social democracy is the only social/political/economic system that can create Heaven and Heavenly conditions. Yet we continue to stay with capitalism which, again, because of its nature, produces greed, institutions and systems to feed and nurture greed, injustice upon injustice, and corruption from top to bottom.
I don't know how to interpret such a conundrum - who's to blame? : (1) the evil puppet masters behind capitalism, or (2) the citizens who vote the political toadies of the evil system into office so that the country can be looted, pillaged and made a place more agreeable to someone like Jabba the Hut than honest Abe.
Capitalism is the worship of money, power and privilege. It cannot save us. It does not serve us. But it tempts us, all that money, power and privilege, to be the worse that we can be. Capitalism has produced our health-care system, a perverse and horrible monster. (No one should be without access to health care.)
It has produced Wall-Street, the stock market, toxic assets, corporate plundering, the loss of national respect, the loss of the middle class (the mainstay and backbone of any society), an educational system scandalously expensive and only superficially educative, and on and on, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

Right or Left
It tickles me to witness the rush of certain political figures to claim they are of "The Right." Joe Scarborough wants the country, if it won't be "right," at least to be "center-right." And Oh! No!, Obama is taking us "center-left." It will be the end of civilization!
You think?
Consider that the "right," politically speaking, is what the Nazis were. Fascism produced the "Corporate State," the marriage of government and business. Their opponents, the Soviet Communists, were the "left." Socialism is called "Left." And many Americans equate socialism with Communism.
Communism is nothing like socialism. In fact, communism is more like capitalism, with the national wealth unjustly distributed to the few, the aristocracy (in a democracy?) of wealth. I guess our founding fathers couldn't protect us from the rule of the money elite...sadly.
Soviet Communism was, quite simply, just another form of tyranny. Neither the Nazis nor the Communists had any real regard for mankind. And their leaders were madmen - Hitler, Stalin. (They had to be mad, didn't they?)
Now socialism is a society of people where everyone is considered a cell of the national body, and every cell must be kept as healthy as possible, shouldn't they?. Certain amenities would be free, among them: health/dental care, education and care of the aged. Shouldn't they?
Full employment would be implemented, at jobs meaningful to the worker, and to the country, at living wages. (We have to do this if we are going to have a "money" economy; I mean, people have to have money to survive! Don't they?)
We are all in this thing of "LIFE" together...and we're all equally important (but in different ways). We get more good things done as a "community" than as a group of hogs at the trough. Socialism is where our equal rights to the basic amenities of LIFE are made real, so that as many children of America as possible (regardless of age) can be fulfilled and nurtured, and have smiles on their faces.
I know I've made "socialism" sound horrible, and it can be criticized as too helpful to too many people, wanting everyone to have the basic human needs freely available. Terrible, terrible! Those "lefties" are just plum crazy...madmen. Or not!

memo to Jesus
Memo To Jesus:
The Money-Changers have taken over the Temple again, and have turned it into a Den of Thieves. And no men have appeared with the strength to drive them out!
Imagine, an entire nation (the USA) being run by crooks, madmen and imbeciles, who set up greed and excessive profits and excessive salaries (and other looting mechanisms) as the national ideals - and we citizens think these guys are going to maintain Heaven in America?
These guys are representatives of Hell! The Money-Changers basically paint the world in Hellish colors : lying, cheating, stealing; lying, cheating, stealing.
In the world of big business Corporate CEOs have been stealing; Wall Street bankers have been stealing, politicians have been lying and stealing, Washington D.C. has become a Den of Thieves.
America was the last great hope in the world's story to play the "Temple," the place of truth, justice, honor, hope, compassion, and integrity, a place of refuge from brutality and corruption, a better way to live for the tormented, exploited souls who inhabit this globe.
And America has failed in that noble mission - in favor of being rich, self- satisfied and undisturbed in that personal peace and prosperity.
How big a tragedy is that?!
Jesus, any suggestions? (I think I heard part of an answer, something about "what you actually worship is what you actually get.)

New Paradigm
Let me introduce myself. I am Steve Davis, a mid-western man, raised to honor our country as the haven to the oppressed and a beacon to the whole world in behalf of democracy, integrity, justice, fairness and the idea that all men should have a right to those amenities necessary for a meaningful and rich life, regardless of income.
America's present economic, political and social paradigm is inadequate for the 21st Century. It cannot just be tweaked or propped up. It must be radically adjusted to carry out the vision of America the Beautiful, not America the plunderer of the world's resources and relocator of the world's wealth to a precious few.
You may ask, “Who have carried out this treason, this treachery, who have plundered America until it is on its knees, distressed beyond imagination?
Is this crisis man-made? I believe so. Our political, business and financial leadership, in particular over the past thirty years, have facilitated this plundering, mostly in the name of conservative ideals and fiscal policies supposedly intended to take us to Paradise, but now, clearly, actually intended to take us to Hell, to the destruction of our democracy.
The public sector has ignored its responsibility to govern for the best interests of all citizens, and has allowed (encouraged, actually) the private sector to spread its bankrupt values, primarily excessive, "short-term" profit, throughout the culture, until what we have, increasingly, is a den of thieves rather than a nation of honorable men doing what is necessary to implement the glory of a country established on noble ideals, ideals that would not only create a society of people as it should be, with each others’ best interests in mind first and foremost, but hopefully to be an inspiration for all the peoples in the world looking for hope.
Capitalism as it now exists is a wrong economic paradigm; the Market system, likewise, is a money-changers’ system which, along with the modern corporation, have become a two-headed Frankenstein monster. Deregulation is sophistry of the first order. It knowingly was a means whereby corrupt and greedy men could lie, cheat and steal out in the private sector, with impunity.
Some items to be considered in setting up a new paradigm:
1. The national ideal would be founded on the principle of the "Common Good." The current national ideals of "Greed" and "Excess Profit" must be dismantled;
2. Investigations and transparency regarding how, and by whom, the current crash is attributable. Fines and penalties for profiteering will equal the amount of the profiteers’ profits, and be added to the national treasury;
3. Health care, dental care and education will be free;
4. Full employment, at livable wages, will be provided to all. If the private sector can't do it, the public will;
5. Elder care will be given high-priority status;
6. Corporations will have to be dismantled to the extent necessary to make them citizen-friendly, or just done away with as a business instrument because they have been hopelessly compromised by the money-obsession of the unscrupulous men who run them. It’s the same with the Market, a nefarious operation if I ever saw one; and
7. Money will be replaced by public service as the basis of determining ones’ value to the nation, and the incentive for citizens shall shift from acquiring great personal wealth to giving service to public needs. All activity will be for the purpose of improving the quality of life of all citizens, catching up those who have been set to the side, and making more reasonable the accumulations of those who raced ahead, trying to get all they could for themselves, and their small band of profiteers.
It is time now to transform a broken down political/ economic system with a system based on the original ideals of the founding citizens, a nation determined to do the right thing for all citizens, and to determine personal value, not by how much money you have, or fame, or status, but by what you do to promote the Common Good.
